CONFORMATION AND OBEDIENCE
“Conformation” is the official name for “dog shows.” The purpose of conformation showing is to evaluate breeding stock. The dog’s conformation—his overall appearance and structure—is an indication of the dog’s ability to produce quality purebred puppies, and that is what is being judged in the ring. That’s why mixed-breeds and spayed or neutered purebreds are not eligible to compete. Many times a new exhibitor will get started in dog shows by finding a mentor, usually the breeder they acquired their puppy from. Many AKC clubs also offer handling classes to teach owners how to present
their purebred dog to a judge at a dog show.
Our conformation Beginner classes are held every 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesday, of each month at 7 PM at the clubhouse, and Advanced classes are every Saturday at 11 am.
RALLY AND OBEDIENCE
Obedience and Rally trials showcase dogs that have been trained and conditioned to behave well at home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. AKC Rally® is a companion sport to AKC Obedience requiring teamwork between dog and handler along with performance skills similar to obedience. The American Kennel Club designed the S.T.A.R. Puppy Program for puppies under one year of age as preparation for the CGC. S.T.A.R. puppies will "graduate" the final night of training after passing a test conducted by an AKC certified Evaluator.
We welcome hearing from members and non-members who would like to attend special classes in Obedience and/or Rally during the Summer months. We also are planning testing for the CGCA and CGCU. Contact Diane at LittleFolksVilla@aol.com for more information.
A Taste of 0 & R:
This is a Class for those handlers interested in Obedience and Rally who may or may not have experience in the sports but who have Beginning Dogs. The focus is on those beginning skills needed for both Obedience and Rally. Handlers and dogs learn basic skills for Competition in Beginner Novice Obedience and Rally Novice Competition. This also could be a great class for those handlers and dogs thinking about doing Agility. This class can be repeated as needed. When handlers and dogs are ready, they can move into the practice groups. This class also works on skills needed for the Canine Good Citizen Program tests (CGC, CGCA and CGCU).
